The skies over Gormsey lit up last night as the parish council hosted its annual Bonfire Night celebration, drawing residents from all corners of the village for an evening of fun, fireworks, and community spirit.

The event, held at Gormsey Park, kicked off at 6 PM with a variety of food stalls offering traditional treats such as toffee apples, hot chocolate, and roasted chestnuts. Local vendors also set up shop, providing a range of crafts and homemade goods, adding a festive touch to the evening.

As the night progressed, families gathered around the towering bonfire, which was ceremoniously lit by the Mayor of Gormsey, Councillor Jane Smith. In her opening remarks, Councillor Smith highlighted the importance of community events in bringing people together and fostering a sense of belonging.

The highlight of the evening was undoubtedly the fireworks display, which began at 8 PM. The sky was ablaze with vibrant colors and dazzling patterns, leaving the audience in awe. Children and adults alike watched in amazement as the fireworks painted the night sky, each burst met with cheers and applause.

In addition to the visual spectacle, the event featured live music from local bands, providing a lively soundtrack to the festivities. The Gormsey Community Choir also performed, delighting the crowd with a selection of seasonal songs.

Safety was a top priority for the parish council, with designated areas for fireworks viewing and ample first aid stations. Volunteers from the Gormsey Fire Brigade were on hand to ensure the bonfire was safely managed, and the event concluded without incident.

Councillor Smith expressed her gratitude to all who attended and contributed to the success of the evening. “Bonfire Night is a cherished tradition in Gormsey, and it’s wonderful to see our community come together to celebrate. We look forward to making next year’s event even bigger and better,” she said.

As the embers of the bonfire slowly died down, residents left with smiles on their faces, already anticipating next year’s celebration. The Gormsey Parish Council’s Bonfire Night once again proved to be a highlight of the village calendar, bringing warmth and joy to all who attended.
